William Wallace - Braveheart

Guest to my blog may wonder, why and who is William Wallace. One of my favourite movies of all times- Braveheart, acted by Mel Gibson. William Wallace was just a mere mortal that stood against oppression of the English Rule.

It all began, according to the movie Braveheart was that the English Noble who happens to be the cousin to King Edward 1 ("Longshanks") took Wallace's bride under the English custom, the Right of the First Night or Fornication Under Consent of the King (F.U.C.K). That started the ball rolling for William Wallace.

Well, according to local Ayrshire legend, two English soldiers challenged Wallace in the Lanark marketplace regarding his catching of fish. According to various historians, including John Strawhorn, author of The History of Irvine, the legend has Wallace fishing on the River Irvine. He had been staying with his uncle in Riccarton. A group of English soldiers approached, whereupon the leader of the band came forward and demanded the entire catch. Even after Wallace offered half of his fish, the English refused such diplomacy and threatened him with death if he refused. Wallace allegedly floored the approaching soldier with his fishing rod and took up the assailant's sword. He set upon the entire team of English soldiers with stereotypical success. The argument had escalated into a brawl and two English soldiers were killed.

Anyway, what is important was that he fought for what he believes was right. He defeated the English at Stirling. This was his famous words after the victory.

"I'm William Wallace, and the rest of you will be spared. Go back to England and tell them... Scotland is free!"

Like in our world that we live in today, we think only of ourselves and our own freedom not anyone elses... we oppress others more then we are oppressed .... and when fight for our freedom ...as in the movie... we get betrayed by those who call themselves brothers.

William Wallace was finally defeated by the English at the Battle of Falkirk. After several years in hiding, Wallace was eventually found by John de Menteith, a Scottish knight captured him in Robroyston near Glasgow and handed over to Longshanks, who had him tried for treason.

William Wallace responded to the treason charge, "I could not be a traitor to Edward, for I was never his subject." With this, William Wallace asserted that the absent John Balliol was officially his king. William Wallace was sentenced guilty as charged.


Following the trial, William Wallace was taken from the hall, stripped naked and dragged through the city at the heels of a horse to the Elms at Smithfield. He was hanged, drawn and quartered — strangled by hanging but released whilst he was still alive, emasculated, eviscerated and his bowels burnt before him, beheaded, then cut into four parts. His preserved head was placed on a pike atop London Bridge. His limbs were displayed, separately, in Newcastle upon Tyne, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Stirling, and Aberdeen.

I had the chance of visiting Stirling, Falkirk and Glasgow..........seeing the battlefields, gives you the eerie feeling, but realising how smart William Wallace was in choosing his battle ground, he could not have been defeated, if not for the betrayal of his fellow Scots.

Long live William Wallace, who shall always be remembered as a patriot and hero.

1 - 10 in English

You might like it. This is hilarious... ..even an Englishman could not construct sentences using numeric, which is exclusive only to Malaysians and Singaporeans.

Ah Lek was asked to make a sentence using 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9,10. Not only did he do it 1 to 10, he did it again from 10 back to 1.

This is what he came up with..... 1 day I go 2 climb a 3 outside a house to peep. But the couple saw me, so I panic and 4 down. The man rushed out and wanted to 5 with me. I ran until I fell 6 and threw up. So I go into 7-eleven and grabbed some 8 to throw at him. Then I took a 9 and try to stab at him. 10 God he run away.

10 I put the 9 back and pay for the 8 and left 7-eleven. Next day I called my boss and told him I was 6. He said 5 , tomorrow also no need to come back 4 work. He also asked me to go climb a 3 and jump down! I don't understand. I am so nice 2 him but I don't know what he 1.

The title speaks for itself.........I know most Malaysians know him. I have come acroos him a few times on TV but I did not think so highly of him being a comedian. Well, not until the clip below, I could see that he is a talented comedian after all. What he did in that clip its hard to follow.

Elections & Racial Sentiments

Firstly, I would like to set the records straight that I'm not a racist but rather miss those times when I was in primary school that we knew no racial barriers. I remembered that we use to share food together, the Malays would tell the Indians if the food had eggs (like Raya cookies), Chinese telling their sandwiches had pork etc.

Today, all that is missing. Lets be honest to ourselves, the last Elections (PRU 12) the campaining and results were purely racial nothing to do about the economy or moving forward as One Nation. This, to me, I owe to Pak Lah, who had destroyed 50 years of Nation building and the social fabric of our Nation.



I was even shocked, going to Kuala Sepetang during the By-elections of Bukit Gantang, the Chinese Community there could bluntly say that they are not going to give their votes to Barisan Nasional (BN) solely because BN brought down "their Chinese Government". I was totally shocked at the remark being made. It had nothing to do with Government aid to Chinese Schools not given (the last I checked in the Parliamentary Hansard, the Government has been giving aid to Chinese Schools even when there are no elections). What was said by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, aftermath of the By-elections was true.



Be it Malay, Chinese or Indians, we only have this Blessed Nation to live in. What are we going to educate out next generation? The Malays have given in all these years to the Chinese and Indians towards the betterment of the Nation. The Chinese had in a way build the economy of the Nation and the Indians too.



Therefore, in the name of Unity, we must all learn once more, to give and take. Let not one Community feels that its giving in too much nor another to feel that its superior in receiving much more.



The Government has a new leader today. If we are sincere in our hearts and want whats best for the Nation and those living in it, Lets Unite. We have come along way. Our founding fathers wouldn't want us to fail. We only have ourselves to blame should we fail, because there is no room for failure.

Wake up for Salaah Fajr

A man woke up early in order to pray the fajr prayer in the masjid. He got dressed, made his ablution and was on his way to the masjid. On his way to the masjid, the man fell and his clothes got dirty.

He got up, brushed himself off and headed home. At home, he changed his clothes, made his ablution and was again, on his way to the masjid. On his way to the masjid, he fell again and at the same spot! He again, got up, brushed himself off and headed home. At home he, once again changed his clothes, made his ablution and was on his way to the masjid. On his way to the masjid, he met a man holding a lamp. He asked the man of his identity and the man replied I saw you fall twice on your way to the masjid, so I brought a lamp so I can light your way.
The first man thanked him profusively and the two were on their way to the masjid. Once at the masjid, the first man asked the man with the lamp to come in and pray Fajr with him. The second man refused. The first man asked him a couple more times and, again, the answer was the same. The first man asked him why he did not wish to come in and pray.

The man replied, I am Satan.
The man was shocked at this reply.

Satan went on to explain,I saw you on your way to the masjid and it was I who made you fall. When you went home, cleaned yourself and went back on your way to the masjid, Allah forgave all of your sins.
I made you fall a second time,and even that did not encourage you to stay home but rather, you went back on your way to the masjid. Because of that, Allah forgave all the sins of the people of yourhousehold.
I was AFRAID if I made you fall one more time, then Allah will forgive the sins of the people of your village, so I made sure that you reach the masjid safely.

So DO NOT let Satan benefit from his actions. DO NOT put off a good that you intended to do as you never know how much reward you might receive from the hardships you encounter while trying to achieve that good.
May Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala grant usgood Muslim Hearts and we all do our Prayers with all our Heart and Soul... Ameen...

Abu Bakr As Siddiq

I was at the Friday Prayers today and the sermon was very interesting, about the Sahabah (Companion) of the Holy Prophet S.A.W. His name is Abu Bakr As Siddiq, the first Caliph.

Abu Bakr was always a very close Companion of the Holy Prophet, he knew him better than any other man. He knew how honest and upright the Prophet was. Such knowledge of the Prophet made Abu Bakr be the first man to follow the Message of Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam. He was indeed the first adult male to accept Islâm.

The Holy Prophet told Abu Bakr what had happened at Mount Hira', he told him that Allâh subhanahu wa ta'ala has revealed to him and made him His Messenger. When Abu Bakr heard this from the Prophet sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam, he did not stop to think, he at once became a Muslim. He submitted to Islâm with such determination that once the Holy Prophet himself remarked, "I called people to Islâm, everybody thought over it, at least for a while, but this was not the case with Abu Bakr, the moment I put Islâm before him, he accepted it without any hesitation".

He was titled As-Siddiq by the Holy Prophet because his faith was too strong to be shaken by anything.

Abu Bakr's love of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam was so great that he was willing to sacrifice his life for the sake of protecting and comforting the Prophet saw.

In 622 on the invitation of the Muslims of Madinah, the Holy Prophet ordered Muslims to migrate to Madinah in batches. Abu Bakr accompanied the Holy Prophet in his migration for Madinah.

They hid in the cave of Thur. The Quraysh sent search parties in all directions. One party came close to the entrance to the cave, but was unable to sight them. Due to this the following verse of the Qur'an was revealed:

If ye help not (your Leader) (it is no matter): for Allah did indeed help him; when the unbelievers drove him out: he had no more than one companion: they two were in the cave, and he said to his companion "Have no Fear, for Allah is with us": then Allah sent down His peace upon him, and strengthened him with forces which ye saw not, and humbled to the depths the word of the Unbelievers. But the word of Allah is exalted to the heights: for Allah is Exalted in might, Wise. [Qur'an 9:40]

'Aa'ishah, Abu Sa`eed al-Khudri and ibn 'Abbaas in interpreting this verse said Abu Bakr was the one who stayed with the Prophet in that cave

A short time after returning from the Hajj Wida' (farewell pilgrimage), the Holy Prophet became ill. In his fatal illness, the Holy Prophet came out with a piece of cloth tied around his head and sat on the pulpit. After thanking and praising Allah he said,

ﺇ ﻥ ﺍ ﷲ ﺧﻴﺮ ﻋﺒﺪﺍ ﺑﻴﻦ ﺍﻟﺪ ﻧﻴﺎ ﻭ ﺑﻴﻦ ﻣﺎ ﻋﻨﺪ ﻩ ﻓﺎ ﺧﺘﺎ ﺭ ﺫ ﻟﻚ ﺍﻟﻌﺒﺪ ﻣﺎ ﻋﻨﺪ ﺍﷲ

Allah has given one of His Slaves the choice of receiving the splendor and luxury of the worldly life whatever he likes or to accept the good which is with Allah. So he has chosen that good which is with Allah

Abu Bakr wept profusely and said, "Our fathers and mothers be sacrificed for you".

The companions was astonished by this (they wondered why did Abu Bakr wept), and the people said, "Look at this old man! Allah's Apostle talks about a Slave of Allah to whom He has given the option to choose either the splendor of this worldly life or the good which is with Him, while he says "our fathers and mothers be sacrificed for you"."

It turned out the Holy Prophet himself was that servant, as Abu Bakr later told the companions. Then the Holy Prophet continued:

"No doubt, I am indebted to Abu Bakr more than to anybody else regarding both his companionship and his wealth. And if I had to take a Khalil from my followers, I would certainly have taken Abu Bakr, but the fraternity of Islam is sufficient. Let no Door of the Mosque remain open, except the door of Abu Bakr."

The good referred in the first part means the good in the hereafter. Khalil means intimate friend. The door referred to here is the door to theMasjid al-Nabawi.

When the Holy Prophet wafat, Muslims gathered in Masjid al-Nabawi and there were suppressed sobs and sighs. Abu Bakr came from his house at As-Sunh (a village) on a horse. He dismounted and entered the Masjid al-Nabawi, but did not speak to anyone until he entered upon 'Aa'isha and went straight to the Holy Prophet who was covered with Hibra cloth (a kind of Yemenite cloth). He then uncovered the Holy Prophet's face and bowed over him and kissed him and wept, saying,

"Let my father and mother be sacrificed for you. By Allah, Allah will never cause you to die twice. As for the death which was written for you, has come upon you"

Such was the love of a true Companion, the quality of the humble and generous Companion who believed the Holy Prophet in everything to the extent that he was called As-Siddiq, by the Holy Prophet. His great personality and service to Islâm and Muslims earned him the love and respect of all Muslims.

May Allah be pleased with you and bless you with His Choicest of Blessings, Abu Bakar As-Siddiq, radiallaahu 'anhu.

One afternoon a Lawyer was driving home when he saw a man eating grass by the side of the road "Why are doing that?" the lawyer asked.

"I don't have any money for food"'the man replied.

"Oh,then you must come with me".

"But,Sir,I have a wife and five children."

"They are all welcom".So the family got in the lawyer's car and he sped off towards his mansion. "you're so kind to help so many people"'the wife gushed during the journey.

"It's fine". said the lawyer. "I haven't cut my grass in weeks".

Dean vs Students

One Night 4 College Students Were Playing Till Late Night and Didn't Study For The Test Which Was Scheduled For The Next Day.

In the morning they thought of a plan. They made themselves look as dirty and weird with grease and dirt. They then went up to the Dean and said that they had gone out to a wedding last night and on their return the tyre of their car burst and they had to push the car all the way back and that they were in no condition to appear for the test.

So the Dean said they can have the re-test after 3 days. They thanked him and said they will be ready by that time.On the third day they appeared before the Dean.

The Dean said that as this was a Special Condition Test, All four were required to sit in separate classrooms for the test.They all agreed as they had prepared well in the last 3 days.

The Test consisted of ONLY 2 questions with the total of 100 Marks.

Hospital Window

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room.

One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs.His bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation.

Every afternoon when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside.

The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.As the man by the window described all this in exquisite detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene.

One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although the other man couldn't hear the band - he could see it. In his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words.

Days and weeks passed.One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep. She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.

As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone.

Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real world outside. He strained to slowly turn to look out the window beside the bed.It faced a blank wall.The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window.

The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall.She said, "Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you."

Moral of the Story:-

Despite our own situations and shortcomings, life is about living with others and make life worth living for

Tribute to P.Ramlee

Moving on, since we were talking about the scene from P.Ramlee's famous movie "Ibu Mertuaku", I think many would know that that Film won awards in Tokyo for the Asia Film Festival.

Patah tumbuh hilang berganti.........thats a Malay saying but till today, we have not seen any that could take his place.......a true artist indeed. Below is my favourite scene....


I think this is the best scene........seeing Mak Dara rolling on the graveyard.

What the movie potrays back in the 60's is actually happening until today that a number of mother inlaw unhappy with the choice of son inlaw are willing to do anything to split them up. May be P.Ramlee has a foresight after all.......that brings to the situation in Perak, the meeting under the tree, which was also potrayed in one of P.Ramlee's movie.

We shall talk about Perak later on......

Who am I

A very interesting question indeed. I'm an advocate and solicitor by profession........in laymen terms lawyer la.........that brings me to the story of Kassim Selamat......siapa itu Kassim Selamat?



Well those days, its true that lawyers make lots of money and hold a high social standing, look at David Marshall.....so too are Magistrates. Kalau orang di kampong, Magistrate tu duduk lepas Tuan DO (Pegawai Daerah). Kalau anak kahwin dengan DO atau Magistrate........dahsyat gempar satu kampong.

Well times have change, musicians make lots more than any lawyer these days.....more fame like MAWI and AF that younger generations look up and idolised them. They are the iconic figure these days.

So, this is me..............

Basically, there are a lot of "things" out there which are not the truth rather 'half truth turns absolute' (Winston Churchill on Paul Joseph Goebbels).
